Who is M.E. Legal Nurse Consulting?
Maureen Elia, MSN, C-EFM, RNC-IAP, RNC-OB
Maureen Elia, RN brings over 12 years of hands-on experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse—and as a mother of four, she truly understands childbirth from both the clinical and personal perspective. Her dual vantage point gives her a unique ability to speak to the standards of care in the perinatal environment with authenticity and expertise.
Maureen is board certified in Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, and Antepartum Nursing. Her clinical background is rooted in a Level III perinatal center, where she has practiced across a full spectrum of care settings, including labor and delivery, antepartum, postpartum, newborn nursery, and neonatal intensive care. She actively serves in multiple roles such as triage nurse, labor nurse, circulator, postpartum nurse, and antepartum nurse—maintaining current, real-world insight into evidence-based practice and the standards of care.
In addition to her clinical work, Maureen has served in leadership positions including Chair of the Quality Committee and Chair of the Safety Committee, and is an engaged member of the Bereavement Committee. These roles reflect her commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and compassionate care.
Maureen also serves as a Fetal Monitoring Instructor for AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses), where she educates nurses, midwives, and physicians on interpreting fetal heart rate patterns, understanding physiology, applying clinical interventions, and promoting effective communication during labor and delivery.
Another role Maureen really enjoys is working as a clinical supervisor within a nursing program. As an OB and Medsurge Clinical Instructor, she plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of nurses by providing hands-on guidance, fostering critical thinking, and ensuring safe, evidence-based practice in the high-stakes environment of obstetric care.
Finally, Maureen is currently serving in a volunteer role as Director at Large for AALNC, American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. Within this role, she is a key member of a leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, representing the broader membership, and supporting the organization’s goals through active participation in decision-making and committee work.
With a comprehensive clinical background and a deep understanding of perinatal nursing, Maureen provides expert insight that is both informed and impactful in the legal setting.
