Who is M.E. Legal Nurse Consulting?

Maureen Elia has over 11 years’ experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse and is a mother of 4 children. She has been on both sides of the delivery table and can attest to the standards of care in the perinatal environment.

She is certified in Inpatient Obstetrical Nursing and Advanced Fetal Monitoring with dedicated hospital nursing experience in a Level III perinatal center with labor and delivery unit, antepartum unit, postpartum unit, newborn nursery, and limited neonatal intensive care unit experience. Within the clinical setting, Maureen is actively serving in a variety of roles including charge nurse, triage nurse, antepartum nurse, labor nurse, circulator, and postpartum nurse. She also serves on multiple committees including Chair of the Quality and Safety Committee as well as active member of the Bereavement Committee. The variety of roles Maureen serves in allows her to stay current in evidence-based practice and standards of care.

When not working as an L&D RN, Maureen thoroughly enjoys teaching nursing students’ adult health concepts. Her focus is on cardiac, renal, and respiratory disorders which allows her to take her compassion for patient care from bedside to the classroom.

Through both the clinical and simulation environment, Maureen builds students’ confidence and knowledge, preparing them for a career in nursing. Maureen earned her MSN with an emphasis on Nursing Leadership from Chamberlain University.

Medical legal nursing has become a new passion of Maureen’s. She feels the expert witness serves a vital role in ensuring standards of care are met, breeches of care are highlighted, and ultimately, safe care is the focus of healthcare.
